From an ontological model to ERP software in the cloud: welcome to the Next level!

Software has been developed for ages now. Every couple of years, software vendors are confronted with the same challenge over and over again: how to migrate their existing software to the latest technology. 

At AFAS we are currently providing an integrated ERP cloud based solution which is used on a daily basis more than 1.000.000 professional users. How to move this software to the latest technology once and forever?

In this session we will elaborate on how we are moving our current ERP suite to the Next level. We will explain how we take an ontological model – which has enough expressive power to fully describe the real-world enterprise phenomena of practically any customer – and combine it with code generation tools and techniques to regenerate our entire software suite on a technology platform of our choice. 

Erik van de Ven attained a cum laude master's degree in computer science at Nijmegen University. He started his career as developer at Baan ERP and worked as principal consultant for Microsoft for eight years implementing large software systems. After that he joined Cordys and got involved in international product development as vice president of product management. In 2014 he joined AFAS to head the team of designers to establish a brand new model driven application platform for the cloud, named Next. Erik is passionate about declarative (functional) programming and conceptual modelling. In his spare time he also loves riding his mountain bike with friends.
